Treatment options for Multiple Concussions

Concussion Brain

Concussions are stressful and potentially damaging to the brain. In recent years science is finding that the more concussions the brain has, the more likely lasting damage will happen. If you have had a concussion in the past and healed well with no lasting damage that is great. Exercise caution if you have another impact on the head. Here is what to do if you should encounter another brain trauma:

1 – Get an examination. This means making a doctor’s appointment. If you play sports and have had a pre-season concussion screening, see team staff and get evaluated! getting evaluated right away can be critical in some concussions. Getting treatment sooner can mean less long-lasting effects or damage.

2 – Rest! Mild trauma to the brain on a repeated basis is a big deal. If there has been a strong impact on the head, but you “only feel a little funny”, it is still important to get good rest. A mild concussion can become very serious with a second impact. Rest means no screens or reading. A light short walk is ok, but do no go for a run or perform a workout. Just relax, get some extra sleep if you can.

3 – Treatment options: neurologist management, a prescription from a medical doctor for pain, physical therapy to strengthen damaged or weak muscle, chiropractic care for spinal care, massage for muscles or inflammation management, functional neurology to train the brain, acupuncture, hyperbaric chamber to promote healing, cold laser therapy, diet consultation, psychiatry.

The most important is to do something if your symptom linger.
